So we all know that John Boehner appeared on Fox and said he told Ron Dermer “specifically not to tell the White House” about Binyamin Netanyahu's invitation to speak to Congress. How many people believed what Boehner said? You shouldn't. There are two things certain about Boehner's "admission" and one of them is: he lied.
The other certainty is that the invitation was deliberately kept from the White House in order, as Boehner put it, “to make sure there was no interference”. There was never any doubt about that. The lie Boehner told is his claim that it was all his idea. It wasn't.
It's a really obvious lie too. You don't have to have a genius IQ to work out that Boehner has neither the brains nor the guts to think up this kind of plot. He also has no power over any foreign leader, especially an arrogant shit like Netanyahu. Given Netanyahu's demonstrated contempt for the POTUS (both to the man and the office), he's certainly going to consider someone of Boehner's stature to be a long long way beneath him, probably somewhere in the bug category.
However, Boehner is a useful idiot. Netanyahu used him. It's obvious that Netanyahu was the one who hatched this plot, who decided on the precise timing, who factored in a studied insult to the White House. His first intention is to sabotage negotiations with Iran. Advantaging his re-election bid and further insulting the White House are just very big cherries on top. He's multi-tasking.
Boehner probably didn't take much persuading. If Sheldon Adelson was quietly involved in the background, Boehner would have complied immediately. Dermer, the middleman, had very little work to do.
However, when it came to taking responsibility for the plot against the White House, Boehner must have had a very uncomfortable moment (no doubt liberally treated with increased alcohol intake and cigarettes). But since Netanyahu had told Israel that he had no idea the White House had not been informed of his impending visit, it was obvious that Boehner would have to be the one to take the prat fall. Just as well for him that Fox Propaganda exists to cushion that fall.
It was probably Dermer who told him what to say. It's hard to believe that Boehner would have decided for himself to make his situation even worse by adding a deliberate admission of subversion to his excuse. The whole affair will shorten his life. I wouldn't be surprised if he developed an ulcer on top of everything else.
It will be interesting to see what happens on March 3. The fallout following the speech, in terms of US-Israeli relations and the Israeli election, will be worth watching.
In the meantime, question everything a Republican says. Even if it is billed as an "admission", question it. Weigh what is said against what you know of the speaker (or the Speaker in this case). Always look for the lie. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, there will be a lie in there somewhere. In this case, the lie is all too obvious.
