It's February vacation week here in Massachusetts, because unlike just about everyone else we have TWO weeks of vacation after New Years, one in February and the other in April. It appears we were on vacation status here at Top Comments, so I hope that a few snippets of Casa Brillig's story in picture form will hold your interest as you skim down towards those Three Tops. Follow me below the orange snowbank after a word from our sponsor...
Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
I had a rite of passage experience today - K1 went with four of her friends and I to find a dress for Junior Prom in May. It's a much more regulated process than back in my day. A Junior Prom 2015 Facebook group was created months ago, and it's essentially a social requirement that you will post a picture of your dress there. Why? Because otherwise, if someone else posts it first, you can't wear it. In this area there is ONE store that "most everybody" goes to and when you enter, they ask your name and what school you attend. When you are assigned a consultant, they pull out a copy of all the dresses purchased already by your schoolmates, and will NOT let you try on those dresses.
One of K1's friends bought a dress and crosschecked the list. She dutifully posted a picture, only to be told someone else had posted a picture weeks earlier, and so she'd have to go back and try to return the dress. Mind you, all purchases are final but this was the sole exception. As it turns out, first buyer decided to change colors, and the two girls agreed it was ok to have same dress in two colors. The Universe once again in balance, huzzah!
I do NOT have permission to show you K1's dress. Suffice to say it is absolutely gorgeous, and K1 is still floating on air. I am pleased as well, because after the selection was made we looked at the price tag and... it was HALF the price of the #2 dress. Both were within her budget, but having extra makes the mani-pedi and hair appointment less painful to pay for. I am allowed to show what the store looks like. Keep in mind this is half of it:
You know what you really want to see is the snow we've got, don't be shy. Here's just a few recent images.
This is the snow poking through our front hedges. It's also spilling over them. The pile should be several feet higher, but K2's job while cleaning up the weekend's storm was to shovel the snow OFF the pile and into the low spots on the front lawn:
That's K2 standing next to the snowbank separating our sidewalk from the road. For reference, she's 5'10:
That's our front lawn. You can just make out the basement window in the hollow, and our first floor windows. We are so screwed when it finally warms up, sigh:
Lastly, that would be water dripping from the doorframe in our kitchen. It also was dripping from the light switch and I can hear it on the ceiling. There simply is no way to avoid ice dams, and we're hoping no serious damage occurs:
That's what's got us occupied here... what's going on in your part of the world? Let us know after you partake of tonight's fine Tops, graciously formatted by the always amazing BeninSC.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
