"Guns Everywhere!" has been the motto of the Republican Party since at least January 16, 2013, the day President Obama signed 23 executive orders in one day in response to the Sandy Hook massacre. This could not be allowed to stand. To Republicans, of course, the proper response to a gun massacre is to make guns more accessible to psychopaths, not less; moreover, the Black Guy is not supposed to be issuing executive orders on anything, much less something so near to the GOP's heart and pocketbook as firearms. Thus, "gun freedom" took on an aggressive new life in the already destructive and terrifying agenda of the political party I call "ISIS West."
Here in Texas, stronghold of ISIS West, the state Senate approved a bill repealing the existing, sane laws prohibiting concealed carry on college campuses. This type of bill has stalled in the past because of Senate rules, but the new leadership wasn't going to let some minor thing like existing law and legal precedent stop them. So they just changed the rules.
Isn't it great being a Republican? You build your entire image around preserving the past and respecting the law, but when a law becomes inconvenient to you, you simply change it.
Campus carry is part of the larger goal of making open carry legal, because we don't have enough gun violence as it is. We need more Second Amendment Freedom Fighters, like those kids who accidentally killed a six-year-old boy in Houston Thursday night while playing with a gun in an adjacent apartment.
ISIS West was not available for comment.
The six-year-old's death was just one of four such incidents in the Houston area this month. A three-year-old, four-year-old, and a boy of unspecified age have been accidentally killed by firearms in March. Mind you, this is one county out of the 254 in Texas. The total number of children being killed or injured by firearms each month in Texas is more than I want to imagine, since any number above zero is too grotesque to think about.
