I really like President Obama. He is my favorite, "non-historical" president. In my short (or depressingly long to some) life span, I can plainly remember presidents from Jimmy Carter (1976) to the present. (I can remember Nixon's Watergate interrupting my cartoons, and so I should remember Gerald Ford too, but - to be honest - I only remember the Chevy Chase version). Alright, because I like to read history, maybe I have had personal experience with 8 presidents (or roughly 18% of all 44 presidents)
With that, President Obama is, hands down, the favorite president of my lifetime (take that Bill! Clinton!).
So? Well . . given the extreme partisanship and party tribalism today, I feel that I have not read many constructive critiques of the Obama presidency. The Republican attacks on Obama are almost without exception cartoonish and/or disingenuous. The liberal attacks usually want Obama to be a more liberal president, but often (to me at least) seem to ignore political realities.
That doesn't mean that Obama is above criticism. Far from it, and I have some obvious criticisms in mind. But I would like to hear from others some smart criticisms of Obama or some links to provocative pieces criticizing his presidency.
What did he get wrong? Because that is a very useful exercise . . . .
[Feel free to rant about NSA policies, but more unique critiques would be appreciated.]
