This came from a post on Facebook. The lady is a friend and gay. Her words are powerful.
Ah courts, congress, counties, cities and corporations, if you fail to respect and honor lives, if you look the other way from harm and remain uninvolved when millions fall to poverty, fear and desperation, what do you think will happen?
Beware people who feel they have little left to lose. We the non-straight, non-white, non-rich, non-male world are a peaceful sleeping giant. Until we are not. Until we battle blatant racism, grow tired of those unlike us ruling on our worth or humanity, writing rules for our bodies or treating us as lesser, incapable, or as criminals. Because our dreams are yours. Our America is the one you must live in too. Our neighborhoods and children and lovers deserve peace and security, deserve not to live in fear as you do. So as long as you hold the seats of power, wear the robes, wield the gavel, cast the votes in the committee rooms or chambers, know, you live at the cusp of a generation and are no longer the majority.
Ahead may your seats be held by people who look more like America, by women and people with disabilities, immigrants, black mothers and transgender boys and girls. Or may they be held by straight white able bodied men who understand human dignity and equality. Because we who wait in your shadows will be peaceful and patient until our children or fathers die and you do nothing but make excuses and paint any of us as the aggressors or the sinners whose lives are on trial in your courts.
Remember humility. Remember compassion, responsibility. Listen. All is lost if you don't pause right now and listen.
