I've heard that if everyone isn't free no one is. That's no longer something I see as a quaint little saying.
The old Thanksgiving story told to children omits many details. They draw hand turkeys and pumpkins but they aren't taught "the rest of the story."
The only thing the pilgrims shared with the Native Americans were small pox-infused blankets. Indians were forced to convert to Christianity because white rich Europeans
saw a bunch of savages to be tamed. Indians tribes fight to keep their way of life to this day.
Women and minorities were denied the education that the new government thought was required to vote or own land. It took more than a century to get the vote and we are fighting to keep it today. And home ownership is priced out of many families' reach with the policies that allow banks to abuse with impunity.
Only Whites could go to school--especially college. Now everyone can go IF they can afford it or get help. That help is being taken away by conservatives who want no burden for rich corporations but don't care if WE are burdened by their policies.
Yes I'm free to post my opinion, but other countries are not so fortunate and as I said "If everyone's not free, no one is."
BTW this is my first diary so be nice☀
