I have long known my Congresscritter, John Culberson, was useless. But it turns out he's worse than useless, he's evil. Note the email I received from him today entitled "Freeing States from Obamacare".
President Obama promised his health care overhaul would lower costs and improve access to care. But five years later, all we've seen are rising premiums, cancelled plans, and a failed website with a $1.7 billion price tag. Millions of Americans lost their health insurance plans and were forced to buy new, more expensive policies. Despite claims that premiums would decrease by $2,500 for an average family, individual insurance premiums increased by nearly 50 percent in 2014 alone, according to Forbes Magazine.
But good ole John Culberson has come to save us from the evil-bleh-muslim-commie-gay-Kenyan-usurper in the
White House. Follow me below the squiggle to see his amazing plan.
I recently introduced a bill called the Health Insurance Freedom Act (H.R. 1664), which authorizes State insurance commissioners to offer group and individual health insurance plans that existed prior to Obamacare. These plans would be purchased outside of the state and federal exchanges set up under current law. Individuals and employers would have the freedom to choose the plans that best fit their needs, including those plans that were cancelled by Obamacare.
Yes, that's right folks, he wants to bring back the old "catastrophic" policies. I'm sure that will fix us right up. Don't you think? Oh, and he also wants to get rid of the filibuster for Senate spending bills so that "the minority can no longer thwart what I believe is the will of the people". Isn't that rich?
Once repealed, we must replace Obamacare with patient-centered reforms rooted in free market principles that will lower costs. You can read more about the health reforms I support on my website.
A quick browse of his website indicates that the reforms he is so in favor of basically amount to the same old crap the Rs have been pushing for years now: selling insurance across state lines and tort reform.
My response to John Culberson:
"This communication is truly evil. You are trying to manipulate your constituents into supporting a bill that will hurt them. The reason those policies were cancelled is because they were junk insurance that provided so few "benefits" that they weren't worth what people were paying for them. Those policies aren't even worth calling "catastrophic", because if something truly catastrophic happened to you, those policies would not come close to fully covering your care. I know, because in my last job that was the only type of policy my employer offered. The premiums cost about $1500/year and the annual benefit was capped at $5000. You know how long $5000 would last if I had gotten sick enough to be hospitalized? About a millisecond (maybe less). The Affordable Care Act is not perfect, but it is a FAR sight better than what came before and what you cruelly want to send people back to.
You are sitting there in your cushy office with your Cadillac healthcare plan and lifetime pension paid for by the taxpayers, all the while acting directly against the best interests of the people (including most of the people who voted for you). You are a disgrace."
This propaganda from my Congresscritter made me so angry that it inspired me to write my first diary. I guess I just wanted to vent to someone who would actually read it, since I am well aware that John Culberson will not.
