Hillary Clinton vs Michelle Obama, 2016?
Of course not. Don't be ridiculous.
There is a bit of internet chatter about the idea and its coming from more than one direction.
A Conservative comment tread seethes with the usual hate speech at the very idea that Michelle Obama might think herself worthy of the Presidency. Tucker Carlson's rag,
The Daily Caller, is quick to react at the slightest mention of the idea. The smattering of discussion of the idea of Michelle Obama 2016 suggests nervousness on the right.
In the fact based world, lets start with the mention that the Daily Caller reacted to. Columbia Professor Dorian Warren, broached the subject on the Alex Wagoner Show, saying:
“I want to start a whisper campaign on your show right now,” Warren, a professor at Columbia University, started (sic). “I think we should draft Michelle Obama to run. Forget running for the Senate like Hillary did, let’s draft the first lady (sic) right now,” Warren continued. “She is equally as talented and smart as her husband. I think she would make a great president (sic).”
Professor Warren, of course, does not err in his assessment. It is a challenge to argue that the present First Lady is any less likely to be a top notch President than the former First Lady who is actually running for the job. Last month,
Mary Curtis discussed the idea in
a piece entitled Michelle Obama: The Candidate? at
The Root, saying:
According to reports, Clinton plans to go small in her campaign this time around, emphasizing personality and connection with voters.
If Obama followed Clinton’s path, from first lady to political candidate, she would start out with loads of goodwill. Would she ever be tempted to test that popularity? At a luncheon event during 2014’s National Association of Black Journalists convention in Boston, Harvard Law School professor Charles Ogletree, who mentored both Barack and Michelle Obama when they were students there, made his own pitch for the first lady’s next career move. While he acknowledged her desire to stay far away from the fray, he deemed President Obama the second-best politician living in the White House.
This is all based, left and right, on idle daydreaming and speculation. No one with a peppercorn of knowledge and a rational mind thinks that Michelle Obama is running for anything in 2016. I don't.
