I just got back from the Bernie rally at the downtown Dallas Sheraton Hotel. I have never seen such a large turnout in Dallas for a Democrat, let alone a Progressive Liberal one. It was truly inspiring!
The original large ballroom was overfilled, but there were three or four giant screens in the overflow area with an excellent sound system, so everyone could see and hear what Bernie had to say. It would be difficult to estimate the crowd size, but I would guesstimate that it was well over 5,000, which is amazing for this area and the lack of advanced notice for this event.
But the most amazing thing was the diversity of the crowd. There were all ages and all races. I don't mean to sound all Kumbaya, but it was absolutely electric the way everyone seemed to be in sync.
Bernie's most popular applause line was: "If a bank is too big to fail, it is too big to exist!" Everything he said totally resonated with the crowd, particularly his comments about the Koch brothers and billionaires in general.
Bernie comments about economic inequality were particularly well-received. He also said that if elected, he will have a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees, that they are willing to vote to overturn the Citizens United ruling. It will be interesting to see what the local media has to say about this rally.
Best of all, he will be in Houston tonight. I hope that event was better publicized.
