Out of many, one. From many comes one. One from many. However you want to translate it, this simple Latin phrase has been a mainstay of American idealism since the country's inception. Set in our country's seal in 1782, and the country's motto until the red scare replaced it with the more religious "In God We Trust", this phrase, for almost two hundred years, embodied what was best about our more perfect union.
Perhaps it's time to bring it back. Perhaps it's time not only to readopt it, but to codify it into law. As such, a friend of mine has started a White House petition push for just that. Please, sign and share.
