I am starting to fell like I do not understand the new world reality. Why, pray tell, would anyone vote for Clinton who thinks Sanders is too Liberal or vis versa? I do not think there is a large cohort who are looking for 'Liberal, but not oo liberal. Most Americans will agree with Left positions but insist they are conservatives. If we could get a real well known Man to run, maybe even a White guy who is not too liberal but served in the army, oh we tried that. Ok How about a man who was a real war hero ( McGovern) tried that. To be sure we should be conservative in our choices and pick a sure winner. Like Bill Clinton. Or Obama. If Clinton ends up with a better platform than Sanders I will vote for her ( not that it matters what Texas Democrat do). I think Saint Molly ( Ivins) said it best ( paraphrased) "Kerry is who everyone thinks someone else would like a lot. The main reason people give for supporting Kerry was they ( we) thought he could maybe beat W. I will never forgive Hillary for sitting that one out when we needed her. She said she wasn't ready. Well, we were and we have memories. That will not stop me from voting for her but I would have rather done that 11 years ago.
During the wonderful 1990's we often thought Hillary was more Progressive than Bill. In the Senate Ms Clinton made sure we disabused ourselves of that notion and in the tradition of Gold Meir or Maggie Thatcher she set out to out macho the boys as far as hawkishness. The stereotype is women being to reluctant use the military has caused many female politicians to go over hawkish. Will that help her today? I do not know. US voters are not much known for long memories.
