The story below is about how the evil teachers in the State of Tennessee indoctrinate their students with Muslim theology, but don't spend any time on Christianity:

Oh, wait! There's more!
Thing is, while there IS a unit on Islam (that spends about 2-4 weeks, depending on the teacher), there is no specific unit talking about Christianity. If you look at the units from the Tennessee Standards, they are as follows:
1.) The Legacy of Rome
2.) Islam
3.) West African Kingdoms
4.) China
5.) Japan
6.) The Middle Ages
7.) The Renaissance
8.) The Enlightenment
9.) The Age of Exploration.
See?! No Christianity! The word is not there! Only....that second half of the year...where they talk about the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Age of Exploration? Yep -- ALL ABOUT CHRISTIANITY.
Plus, they spend quite a bit of time in 6th Grade during Rome talking about -- You guessed it!-- Christianity!!
So, yes, as a 7th Grade Teacher this year, I made my kids learn the 5 Pillars of Islam. (How do you understand a religion or people without their core beliefs?) And, later this year, I'll have students understand the differences between Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Baptists, Calvinists, etc. I'll have them read about Martin Luther, and I'll have them read about Christian Art and writings in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Oh, and in 8th Grade, they will learn about the Puritans, Quakers, the Great Awakening, the 2nd Great Awakening, and Christianity in the early Americas.
Btw, this may be a bit personal, after all, I had a parent come to my school and try to get me fired because I was not teaching that Islam is evil.
