Advanced Barn Repair
Our biggest barn has had several loose panels for a few years. They have been fine as long as the wind comes from the usual direction, but with the promise of El Nino storms I have become more and more nervous, in that once one panel rips off, many more follow. The barn is very tall, so I considered renting a cherry picker for much money, but there’s not sufficient room between barns. Then I considered renting scaffolding, which costs even more, but realized I’d have to deal with The Scaffolder’s Wife.
So my construction guy son, Eric, came over and checked out the situation.
He said he’d work on it, so today he brought over ladders and a beautifully-crafted piece of equipment which he had designed just by looking at the problem.
He set up a ladder and carried this up and screwed it on to the side of the barn.
It fit perfectly just under the overhang. Then he carried up a second ladder and laid it next to the compromised panel, climbed up and screwed it down, sealing each screw with silicone.
This panel done, he moved the whole mechanism to the other bad panel and repaired that one as well. As far as the barns are concerned I’m ready for anything.
Flowers are popping up all over since we planted extra bulbs everywhere. My seasonal pond is full and overflowing. Spring is just around the corner.
That’s the rural problem opportunity report. Join me at the table for food and drink.
