So it’s been a while.
A few things made me take a break from DKos. Some have nothing to do with the community, and aren’t worth mentioning here. The big DKos-centric reason for a break was a post by front-pager Denise about a year ago, along the lines of “if you’re not going to blindly support Hillary, we don’t want you here”. After the 2014 election, it was a bridge too far.
My thinking? Well, since FP folks are part of the inner circle, then maybe that was official doctrine? Despite my knee-jerk intolerance for intolerance, I’ve occasionally glanced in since then.
I stopped by tonight for the SOTU livestream, and I saw an energy I hadn’t seen in almost a decade. The Sanders supporters—despite that FP post about a year ago—have a strong presence. Debate is alive and well. There’s enthusiasm about supporting someone who cares about justice here in the US and throughout the world.
I’m no prodigal son, and I don’t expect to be welcomed as one. That said, for now, DKos is still family.
Guess I’m back home.
Edited: I originally listed Denise’s post as a FP post, but my memory isn’t good enough to guarantee that it was. In deference to a commenter whose memory may be better than mine, I’ve updated my statement to read “a post by front-pager Denise” rather than “a FP post by Denise”. I remain comfortable with the way I characterized the perceived tone of that post, however.
