It figures that when the MSM finally decides to look at Bernie Sanders, they try to do so as dismissively as possible. From this little hit piece:
Poll by poll, Sanders is emerging as the left's very own Trump -- a rabble-rouser who eschews white papers and pragmatism for visionary pronouncements and unrealistic ideas. And as Trump's opponents have found, going up against Sanders is like punching Jell-O.
Wow… there is so much wrong in this one paragraph that I am surprised the editors let it through. False equivalency with Trump, an accusation of unrealistic ideas and “eschew[ing...] pragmatism” that borders on libelous, and comparing Bernie to Jell-O in a fight—pretty insulting, that.
This once I’m proud to be part of the rabble.
I want to unpack this a little. CNN’s reporters are using language like this to describe Bernie:
”...sharpening his attacks...” which implies that he’s been attacking all along. Anybody who’s paid a modicum of attention to this race knows there’s precious little that Bernie has said that could be called an attack.
”The shift to a more combative, boastful tone...” first suggests that Bernie hasn’t tried to really be a fighter, but also that he’s making the race all about him. Boastful Bernie? Not a shot.
The entire piece is a criticism of Bernie. If it was fact-based then I would deal, but that’s not what these copywriters were pushing.
Hey, CNN: maybe you should put the “News” back in “Cable News Network.”
