A little thing you should know about me is that i am a mental health warrior. I don't like the words mentally ill, suffering from mental illness, or struggling with mental illness. That's why I like the word mental health warrior because that is what we are.
I battle Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder with an unhealthy sprinkling of depression. But I have come up with a new one and that is News and Politics Anxiety Disorder or NPAD for short.
NPAD is a growing threat to mental health. It is all about a lack of lotus of self control. The news is all around us and except for a nice feel good story at the end of the newscast is bad and scary. This I stills a sense of hopelessness.
Global Warming, the rise of mass shootings, vast in quality, the dysfunction of congress caused by a party that would rather let our nation burn than do what is right.
We feel like we can't do anything about what is going on in the world. That makes us scared and angry. It can paralyze. You can become as bad as the ones who cause you this much pain. You can be filled with anger and rage and take it out on the people around you or you can isolate yourself.
Now someone who battles this disorder could turn off tv, give up the Internet, and tell your friends to never mention politics or the news. This puts you friends in an untenable situation. They will feel like they are walking on eggshells around you.
These methods work for a short period of time but we are human beings. Human beings are very curious. The desire to watch the news, turn on Facebook, ask your friends what was the latest outrageous thing that Donald Trump said.
The only way to fight this is by action. Those who battle this disorder have to get back their lotus of control. They have to fight the hopelessness.
Now going on right wing Facebook pages and trolling and pointing out their stupidity and hypocrisy helps but it doesn't really do anything and it can make the feeling worse.
No, the best way is to join a political campaign, contact those that cause you this anxiety directly. Write everything you feel in an E-mail to he who frustrates you. I have done so to Donald Trump. I didn't get a response but it felt good and I didn't get involved in an anxiety producing flame war.
This also attacks your spirituality. One might ask How there could be a God when people claiming to be followers of Him act like Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, or Ted Cruz.
There has always been hypocrites you won't a coat of white paint over their ugly souls. Jesus didn't yell at prostitutes, He didn't yell at tax collectors but He did against the religious right of the day. They were the Pharisees religious leaders who were afraid of losing their power much like the religious right. I would read Matthew 23.
You would have to update the words but it could be said to Ted Cruz.
Anyway don't let them cause you emotional distress. It is time to cause them some.
