Just voted. This is the first of 10 early voting days in Florida. Those 10 days can very by county but seems none are allowing voting on the Sunday before November 8th which has traditionally been early voting for Black citizens. Other GOP controlled States have also shut that day down for voting.
We arrive about 1:00 P.M. We had to wait in line - actually they had chairs. The wait was about 15 minutes. We were numbers 462 and 463. Of course, we could not tell who others were voting for but many were elderly, like us, and there were more females than males.
We are in DeLand which is in the middle of a rather red area of Florida. However, our little town is more liberal than the surrounding areas. I think this is due to Stetson University and there is a bit of tourism, but not like coastal areas. Also, there is a strong historical society that keeps fast food chains and big box stores out of the downtown area.
As we walked down and back (taking a slightly different route), we saw 8 Clinton yard signs and 1 Trump sign. We stopped at the local brew pub after voting and returning home. The business across the alley from the pub had a big Hillary Clinton sign in their window.
We are a bit worried about Amendment #1. It reads like this allows you to have solar panels. The law already allows for solar panels. The Amendment is really a Koch brothers poison pill to kill solar. Our Governor, several Representatives, and Senator Rubio are in the Koch political stable. Community groups have tried to get out the word but the Koch's have been running some very dishonest TV ads on this issue.
Be sure to vote. It is what we do in democracies.
