Indeed, from my perspective, many of the nastiest and most perverse features of Russian politics now seem present in the United States as well. The Big Lie – invented in Nazi Germany, perfected in the Soviet Union, and wielded expertly by Russian President Vladimir Putin – is today a core component of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
She makes note of those GOP establishment figures who have rejected Trump, and she calls out Paul Ryan as exemplary of the cowards in Congress.
She also puts pressure on the “elder statesmen”:
James Baker, who served both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, has not publicly said a word; nor has George Shultz, Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, or Dick Cheney. We know that Colin Powell loathes Trump, but only because his emails were leaked.
I think the focus should be increasingly on those, especially the Gop Senators up for reelection and all House candidates, who are attempting to shirk their responsibility, to take a coherent stand one way or the other.
