Like many, I am horrified hearing about all the accounts of hatred which have surfaced into the open since Trump won.
These bigots hurling insults and assaulting women and minorities will not stop until a very bright light is shined on them. Once their families, their friends, their bosses, their colleagues, and even themselves, see what they look like acting out — they will feel the societal pressure to join back into the ranks of civilized people again.
There’s a reason why the KKK wear hoods.
Public ridicule that adversely affects not just yourself, but your family, and even threatens your job, will be a very strong incentive to help push hate back in the closet — and hopefully chance some hearts.
The Live Body Camera App/Web Site (aka: #RemoveTheHood)
I don’t have the resources to create this product, but here’s hoping folks in the DailyKos community might.
iPhone/Android App
- One button click would launch the App and immediately start live streaming video to a web site to record harassment and hate crimes
- A second click would immediately notify local authorities to come to your location for assistance
- Along with the video, a GPS location would accompany the video to help lead authorities or other good Samaritans to offer assistance
- Because the video will be live streamed, there’s less danger to the phone being taken during an altercation and the video being deleted
Web Site
- The site would store each video for up to 90 days:
- Can be used to shame the perpetrators
- Can be used for criminal or civil cases (video in these cases can be stored for longer)
- The site could help identify the names and home towns of harassers for public shaming
- The site would also offer news agencies and government officials a continuous feed of new examples of hate crimes which could help turn public opinion in a way to help protect minorities and women and push our government leaders to step up
- Site monitors can track victims in real time and click a link to request help from authorities or even map the location and offer direct help
- Lastly, for those voyeurs out there, the site would serve as a blend between a police radio monitor and a reality TV show. I imagine that if there was enough site traffic — costs could be covered from selling advertising
Every resistance needs its own App and Website -— maybe this is that App!
Here’s hoping someone can pick up the baton.
