I’ve had a week to digest the recent events in our nation.
I’ve drunk copious amounts of wine and cried a river of tears.
I’ve read one analysis after another. I’ve spoken with friends and co-workers who are in just as much a state of shock as I am. I am trying to understand what transpired.
I’ve spoken with my employer, a family-owned small business, who is concerned that this election will have devastating results for the business (retail), because in uncertain times, people don’t spend which will stagnate the economy.
I’ve lived in other countries, so the temptation to leave the US and establish a life elsewhere has been a real temptation.
But, today, I woke up with a steely resolve I’ve never had before, and I said
NO
And, despite the negativity of the word, it will work towards a positive.
NO — this election will not cower me;
NO — this election will not erase my love for this country;
NO — this election will not cause me to abandon my principles for comfort;
NO — this election has shaken me to my core, but it has also dragged me from the comfort of my bubble and showed me I need to do more;
NO — I will not despair because the majority of us, let me repeat that loud and clear, THE MAJORITY OF US, rejected Trump’s hatefulness;
NO — I will not get over it; and
NO — I will not get over it.
Don’t get me wrong: we are in for a shitstorm of amazing proportions. You thought the Bush years were bad? It’s all that...on steroids.
Brace yourself, Bridget. It’s going to be bad. Really bad. Gird your loins, because it’s going to get much darker before the dawn.
I apologize for the clichés, but look at our history. Our most challenging moments have shown our mettle. We rise to the challenge,
Again, I remind you, THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS REJECTED HIS HATEFULNESS.
Don't underestimate that.
The system worked in his favor, but the people have spoken.
But, they have unleashed a giant that they never expected.
So my NO will be heard loud and clear
AND WE WILL RISE
P.S. Part of my plan includes donating what I can to organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Freedom From Religion Foundation, ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center and other organizations that have established roots. I know not everyone has the $$ to contribute, but if you have TIME to volunteer, that is just as valuable. The main point: get involved
