Please forgive me if these thoughts aren’t as coherent as I would wish, but I’ve got a lot of work right now so I shouldn’t even be this involved. I’ve started thinking about the supremely scary and unqualified people that Trump is naming to various governmental positions, and he’s taking a lot of heat for these choices. I suddenly became convinced that it is not Trump, in fact, who is pushing for these particular people and the reason I think so is Trump has been so disinterested in the real work of governing that he supposedly offered the Vice-Presidency first to Kasich of Ohio, who turned it down, and then to Pence, who accepted, with the idea that they were to be the de facto President and he would merely amuse himself with either ceremonial or profit-making endeavors, things that he cares enough to take a stand on.
Okay, then who is making these horrible choices? Well, one of the most likely culprits is Steve Bannon, who has been named his chief strategist. I don’t even need to enumerate on this site all the ways that Bannon is an evil bastard who is being foist upon us because of Breitbart and its ideological funder, the computer scientist and hedge fund CEO Robert Mercer. These are two men who definitely have an ideological purpose for their machinations and are going to push as hard as they can, as quickly as they can to destroy the fabric of our society.
Now, here’s what we might be able to do. Nothing is bigger than Donald Trump’s ego. I’m surprised there is room enough in the universe for it. If we can start and promote the meme that Trump is being manipulated and used by Bannon and it’s a shame given that he has a “bigger brain,” then Trump might put on the brakes and call a halt to their activities because he doesn’t like being made to look like a fool. I honestly do feel that Bannon represents the most scary and evil aspects of the forthcoming administration. If we can come up with a powerful, yet simple meme that says (concern trolling) that we are afraid that Trump is ruining his own brand by relying on the decisions of other people who do not have his, or indeed the country’s, best interests at heart, I think he may give some real thought (as much as he is capable) of shutting down their power to control him. As an aside, I believe that Putin has been using Trump very effectively in the same way and was quite instrumental in getting him elected, but there’s not much we can do about that.
This is far from a fully thought out proposal and that’s why I wanted to put it on Daily Kos for those who are far more capable of figuring out how this could all work than I do.
