Today, I am thankful for the First Amendment Freedom of the Press, and thankful that some journalists refuse to "normalize" the deceit and self-aggrandizement Trump used to get elected.
In a little over two weeks since the election he has abandoned virtually every position which he used to excite his base. No wall, climate change is no longer a "hoax," Obama is a great guy and Obamacare has many good features he wants to keep, waterboarding is ineffective, cutting Social Security and Medicare is now worth considering as the Republicans in Congress can't wait to do. The "dishonest New York Times" is now an "American gem." After promising to protect gay rights, he has appointed persons who believe homosexuality is a horrible disease that must be purged.
The Republican leaders in Congress responsible for nothing getting done for the last eight years, and who he attacked viciously throughout the campaign, are now his complaint allies. The Wall Street he excoriated during the campaign is at an all-time high at the prospect of his incoming administration, and chomping at the bit for his proposed removal of every protection put in place to prevent another worldwide economic crash like Bush's policies caused in 2008.
Instead of the "best people" he has appointed racists, shunned ideologues and persons with no experience whatsoever. Neo Nazi white supremacists use the Nazi salute and chant "Heil Trump," and the Ku Klux Klan is having parades to celebrate his victory. Incidents of violent hate are off the charts after Trump's election and he barely whispers any denunciation of what he has unleashed in his name. Instead he attacks Saturday Night Live and the hit Broadway show "Hamilton." He apparently is including his children, who have no security clearances or experience, in meetings about national security and with foreign leaders.
The few policies of which we have details, like his infrastructure" plan turn out to be huge scams that would privatize public assets like roads and airports and only enrich the billionaire class at the expense of the American people. His campaign promise to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants is now just rounding up maybe 2 million people with criminal records, exactly what Obama has been doing for eight years.
All the jobs he promised would be coming back to America are admitted probably gone forever due to technology, not unfair foreign competition and trade deals. He has done nothing to honor his pledge to stop companies from shipping jobs out of the country, like he promised the laid off workers from the Carrier plant in Indiana whose factory is moving to Mexico.
He is shamelessly setting up enormous conflicts of interest where the office of President will be enriching his family and businesses, after a year of calling Hillary and the Clinton Foundation "crooked" when no evidence exists that she ever did any of the things he accused her of. He now has dropped any pretense of prosecuting Hillary for her "crimes" after months of chanting "lock her up." His official government websites have advertisements for his hotels and golf courses, and foreign leaders are being directed to book rooms at his new hotel in Washington.
There is a growing suspicion that the tiny vote margins with which he won key states were the result of the same kind of tampering or hacking Republicans were caught red-handed doing in the elections of 2000 and 2004. The Green Party is demanding recounts in key states which could change who gets those states' electoral votes. There is not a single instance of the voter fraud Republicans claimed would be rampant if had Hillary won.
Resistance to Trump's proposed policies is driving millions of Americans to join a resistance to his assuming the office of President. Five million people have signed a petition begging Electoral College electors to change their vote on December 19 and change the outcome of the election. Hillary's popular vote lead is closing in on 2.5 million votes, the largest ever in American history where the winner of the popular vote lost in the Electoral College. It is not too late to avert the disastrous four years the Country is about to endure. Sign the petitions demanding an audit of the election to prove there was no fraud involved.
This column from Charles Blow of the New York Times perfectly expresses my feelings of disgust and resentment , and why I will not ever "give him a chance," after his eight years of delegitimizing Obama with the birth certificate scam.
