Hi folks. So, would love to get some Kossacks suggestions for great countries to live in. Taking any and all advice. But, before you give me some, let me tell you some of the factors that matter to me.
First, I only speak English. I am more than willing to learn another language, but I am thinking at least initially to live and find a job, I’d probably need a nation just to get started that speaks a fair amount of English at least. Here in the USA I’ve been a lawyer over 20 years and have another advanced degree as well (MBA). I tell you that only to give you some idea of my education. I have been toying with the idea of leaving the law for awhile anyways. Although I still enjoy it, after two decades I would not mind at all trying another field. So, I can work my way up and don’t mind starting at the bottom and starting over. I don’t need a large salary and am confident I’d prove myself and earn my way up in time. I would sell my home here in the USA, which I’d make pretty good money on, and arrive in my new country with a decent nest egg until I could settle down and find a job.
Now to more important stuff. I would love a socially progressive country with nice, non racist, tolerant, intelligent and peaceful people. I want a country that supports a social safety net and understands a mixture of government and capitalism is the best. I’d like a population that doesn’t demonize government or try to dismantle progress.
I like both warm and cool climates but probably prefer something similar to where I live now if I had a choice (Boston). I like a variety of seasons. I probably prefer city living, but I love history and older architecture. Internet connection or satellite so I could keep up with my favorite Boston sports teams would be nice.
I’d prefer something not too far away so I can visit family and friends in the USA at least once a year. Somewhere accepting of immigration that wouldn’t make it too burdensome for me to try and assimilate myself into their culture would be nice. This is something I am very unsure of, who accepts Americans who want to live there and what is the process like? Of course I like good restaurants, culture, sight seeing and spots to travel to. I broke up with my girlfriend of some time in April and I’m single, so a friendly people where I could meet others and make friends easily is ideal.
Mostly I don’t want to live anywhere who’d ever elect a man like Donald Trump to any position of power.
Any advice, suggestions or ideas are more than welcome. Plus insight into the process. Thank you!
