There’s a story in the Sunday paper about how Trent Kelly R is facing a primary challenger on March 8th. Now Kelly has not been in office long . He was elected to replace Alan Nunnalee after he died while in office and got the endorsement from Nunnalee’s widow. BTW, Nunnalee knew he was dying before he ran for office . You would have thought he would have wanted to spend time with his family at the end.
Kelly’s opponent is Paul Clever. He has no political experience and he says he running because he’s mad that all the MS Republicans who could vote voted to pass the Omnibus budget bill. He’s not mad because the bill only runs through September and is really only a stopgap, he’s mad because they didn’t defund Planned Parenthood. And presumably he was fine with the prospect of shutting down the government if the bill didn’t pass. I guess the Republican extremists we have here in Mississippi aren’t extreme enough for him.
