There has been much talk about the contrast between the Baby Boomer Generation and today’s Millennial Gen, X-gen, and all those bullshit labels some not-very-clever scribes invoked for everyone born after 1964 (or whatever the cut-off date).
It’s all horseshit, mostly.
So I’ll just get this off my chest. Today’s young people are amazingly calm and well mannered compared to my generation … me being at the tail-end of the Boomers, born in 1958. Those of us who aren’t rich from that era, well, brothers and sisters ...
When I was young, I was making bombs, I mean rockets, cough. When I was in 5th grade we boys actually organized an anti-Vietnam protest on school grounds, complete with sabotage of the sprinkler system. 11-year-olds, Dude. But to our sorrow, the Revolution was over in the mid-’70s. We young ones didn’t have the chance to get our fair share of abuse (h/t Bob Dylan). We wanted to; we wanted to mix it up with the Pigs, and I sure as shit wanted to test my chemical skills against the Man.
Today the young people are far more measured, and way more patient. Long suffering, is what I call them. So anyone who cries about them posting harsh words on the result of ARPANET (later the WWW, hah), have no memory of the shit that went down (or was planned) when we Boomers actually had a backbone.
So when I read about people crying over harsh words posted on the cusp of this new revolution, I just wish I had a dube to smoke, and laugh. You ain’t seen nothing. Fear not the Far Right and their arsenals come the Revolution. We old timers got chemistry. Oh wait, what I meant to say is all you need is love.
