My sister-in-law is good friends with Marco Rubio’s campaign manager, so I’ve heard his plan to win over pro-choice voters and turn them into anti-abortion voters. It has completely rattled my views on abortion, read on:
Marco Rubio has made it clear his anti-abortion stance is the most important issue for him, he calls it a “moral issue” not a political issue, and the one issue he’d gladly lose his election over.
So no one going into the voting booth during these primaries, or on election day, can have any doubt that Marco Rubio is leading a strong charge on anti-abortion laws. His primary voters love his hard-core pro-life stances, and he’s getting large crowds when he speaks.
When elected in November, Rubio realizes he won’t have a filibuster proof majority, so he needs a bullet proof plan to convert pro-choice politicians and voters to his side, and here is Rubio’s multi-phased plan:
Phase 1) Declare to Congress that he won his presidential election, and that his strong pro-life positions were the most important issue to his campaign, and Congress cannot deny the will of the people.
...if that fails to make liberal politicians anti-abortion:
Phase 2) Show Congress the polls! Whether in one on one meetings with liberal politicians, or in Rose Garden speeches, display polls showing that only 29% of US Adults believe abortion should be legal under any circumstance...also show them polls showing them that a clear majority, 55%, believe abortion should be illegal in all or the vast majority of cases.
...if that fails to make liberal politicians anti-abortion:
Phase 3) Call on all of Rubio’s supporters to flood the mailboxes and phone lines of liberal politicians. When the liberal politicians see the vast outcry of anti-abortion sentiment, Rubio is very confident they will abandon their pro-choice convictions and join him.
...in the VERY UNLIKELY scenario that the first three phases don’t work:
Phase 4) Rubio will go on a nation-wide tour registering voters for the 2018 midterms. Rubio will barnstorm all over the country rallying people to vote in a new more right-wing Senate that will pass his anti-abortion agenda.
Now I know a few of you may still have doubts about this plan. The first time I heard this plan, I thought it was ridiculous.
Clearly, what would happen is everyone would stick to their principles they’ve held for decades, and use every fiber of their being to resist his plan. They are not going to wake up one day and say their entire life has been a lie. Any callers or mailings would be dismissed by liberal politicians as right-wing trolls, no matter what the volume. Even if they believed there was a hardening of pro-life positions, they’d view any pressure by Rubio as a challenge to maintain their principles, rather than an excuse to cave. Also the media would be vicious to any president who had a completely stalled agenda and spent two years campaigning instead of passing an agenda. No matter how you spin it, Rubio’s voters will still be disappointed while the opposition would be galvanized. The President would face gigantic midterm loses, the idea of gigantic midterm gains is a silly fantasy.
But it did sound oddly familiar.
Then I realized that this was the same plan I’ve been hearing on DailyKos for months, that this was actually Bernie Sanders plan for passing his agenda.
Well, if most of the people on DailyKos think that Bernie’s plan for passing his agenda is intelligent, who am I to doubt the wisdom of DailyKos?
So when Marco Rubio is elected President, he’s going to turn us all anti-abortion, whether we want to or not, you cannot deny the wisdom of his plan. You better hope Marco Rubio, somehow, isn’t elected, because then you’ll become anti-abortion too. You can’t fight the plan.
