I really don’t relish writing diaries all the time trashing my former business, but I just can’t help it. I mean these diaries practically write themselves!
Here we go again. In a recent address to his investors, CBS ceo, Les Moonves admitted that Donald Trump has been a godsend to the network’s bottom line. In his speech , according to the Hollywood Reporter ..www.hollywoodreporter.com/… Moonves said, “ It may not be good for America, but it is good for CBS,” referring to the Donald Trump campaign. The Reporter goes on to quote more from the speech :
“The money is rolling in and this is fun. I’ve nevere seen anyhting like this, and this is going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It’s a terrible thing to say. But bring it on Donald. Keep going.”
Yes, it is a terrible thing to say, you POS multi-millionaire ( who incidentally was caught on video one time stiffing his valet becasue he only had $100 bills on him).
I remember when news organizations lost money every year becasue they were more concerned about the “ common good.” It wasn’t becasue they were all such great guys back then. No, they had to do it becasue it was the law. Something called “the fairness doctrine.” They actually had to provide equal time for all the candidates. So you wouldn’t have a situation where Donald Trump got 90% of the air time and Bernie Sanders would get 5% , just becasue it was “good for business.”
Ahh the good old days before Ronald Reagan got rid of the fariness doctrine, and then the telecommunicattions act that paved the way for the monopoly we have today.
Now it’s all about MONEY. Who cares about the issues and the media concern about the “common good” about keepin the electorate informed. Again from The Reporter :
Moonves called the campaign for president, “a circus full of bomb throwing,” and he hopes it continues. “Most of the ads are not about issues. They are sort of like the debates,” he said
Well there you have it. So all of you out there wondering how we got to this place where a major political party is about to nominate a no-nothing con man and huckster, there is your answer he is good for the broadcasting business. You know the industry that by law used to have to look out for the “common good.”
