With the recent assault of two reporters at Trump events-one by the Secret Service, the other by Trump’s campaign manager-much has been written about the control Trump places on the press as they attempt to cover one of his events.
But I haven’t seen much video evidence to give people a real appreciation of what is happening at events. I covered about 8 Trump events during the New Hampshire Primary as part of my vlogging efforts. I had posted some examples of how Trump whips up the crowd against the media. But after the recent assaults, I went through some old footage I knew I had of more examples.
The footage really speak for itself. What is also apparent is the Trump press crackdown is nothing new. Trump was having reporters escorted around his events in October. He was whipping up the crowds against the “disgusting” media since December and restricting reporters movements since January. So it is no surprise that assaults of journalists started happening in March.
But this long history of media abuse by Trumps begs the question: Why aren’t the media executives screaming about the treatment of their reporters! Screaming about reporters who can’t cover the news because they are being detained? Clearly the media bosses have decided they need to keep their access to Trump at the cost of the safety for their employees and the integrity of the journalistic profession.
