This has been an exciting primary. Today, the kudos go to the hard work of Senator Sanders, his team and supporters for their Wisconsin win! It’s a close contest and we have two great candidates.
But I want us to be for us all. I voted for Hillary, my wife for Bernie. And every democrat who votes in any primary or goes to any caucus is another soldier against the potential horrors of a Republican presidency. Yet this week we still heard those who would disparage the value of voters and their choice. I particularly get upset at those who want to dismiss the voters of southern states as not really counting. In fact, our brother and sister Democrats in South Carolina were described as being exactly like those voters in Guam who weren’t even allowed U.S. citizenship before 1950 (ugh, it is true that many of the citizens of South Carolina were treated like non-citizens even after 1950). And people continue to talk this way even though it has been pointed out enough times that this has more than a little whiff of racial paternalism regarding the value of black votes.
Also, regardless of your investigation of the issues, knowledge about policy positions, observations over a lifetime of political involvement, support of the current leading candidate makes you one of the “sheep.”
So, OK — Let’s just ask the question -- “Who’s the Black Sheep?”
We’re the Black Sheep! And the decision is yours….
