From Bernie to Trump,
You read the correctly I was once all in for Bernie however I have learned here at dkos and in the corporate media(that is probably redundant huh?) that I was just being naively seduced by the promise of all that “stuff” Bernie wanted to give me for “free”. We all know nothing is free I was told. He might as well be offering unicorns rides in neverland they scoffed. This sentiment was reinforced by stoking fears of tax increases. I know, cognitively it doesn’t make sense that they were calling it “free” and the baiting me with the fear of tax increases which were to pay for this “stuff”, but the message was being pounded into me everywhere I turned even on progressive blogs.
What is this “stuff” that Bernie wants to give me anyway?
Did I want it or even need it I began to ask myself after reading how disruptive “stuff” can be?
It turns out that “stuff” for one example is Health Insurance for all. Ok that sounds great and all however I already have Insurance and I was told that my Insurance may get disrupted and that stoke fear within. Then one day Chelsea Clinton exposed Bernie’s plan, you might remember this statement-
"Sen. Sanders wants to dismantle Obamacare, dismantle the CHIP program, dismantle Medicare……… I don't want to empower Republican governors to take away Medicaid, to take away health insurance for low-income and middle-income working Americans. And I think very much that's what Sen. Sanders' plan would do.”
One argument from the Clinton camp was that Bernie is trying to give away free stuff at the same time they argued that he was actually trying to take away all the “free stuff” folks already had away from them. Bernie’s grift was exposed and I knew then something didn’t smell right in the Bernie camp, how could someone be offering all this ‘free stuff” to folks at the same time as they are pushing to take all their “free stuff” away?
So what to do? I wanted to give Hillary a chance after busting on Bernie, however I didn’t want to be naive again. Politics is hard, and I’m not that good at it so I need help. I looked to Markos for clarity but Bernie is a bust and Hillary, according to Markos the leader of our blog, is
part of a failed Democratic Party establishment -- led by her husband -- that enabled the George W. Bush presidency and the Republican majorities, and all the havoc they have wreaked at home and abroad…………….. She's part of the Clinton machine that decimated the national Democratic Party. And she remains surrounded by many of the old consultants who counsel meekness and caution.
Well now what do I do? Bernie has all but lost the nomination so I can’t vote for him in the General. My choice is between Hillary and Trump. I certainly can’t be naive enough to vote for someone responsible for enabling the George W Bush administration (and giving him carte blanche for endless war in Iraq) and surrounds themselves with meekness and caution and expect that I’m going to get substantial progress from my Government.
So that leaves me with Trump. Uhmm how the hell did I end up in Trumps camp when I despise his campaign and his rhetoric and I have never voted Republican in my life I thought to myself? Then it dawned on me that Trump was the only one of the two candidates left who is inspiring me to vote. Inspiration is what drives me to the voting booth and Trump has me fired up and ready to vote.
Hillary just hasn’t inspired me, she didn’t inspire me in ’08 and she hasn’t yet this time around although she does still have plenty of time left and I intended on helping her by holding her feet to the progressive fire but I’m not holding my breath.
So for now I’m firmly in the Trump camp. (get ur pitchforks the Hill backers are screaming right now :)) Hear me out.
My 12 year old son came into the TV room the other day in nearly in tears and in a rage as I was watching politics. “Where is he” he yelled. I replied “where is who”, thinking he was looking for one of his siblings. “TRUMP!” he said, “I heard them talking about him on the shoe you are watching and I want to see what he looks like”. “Why” I asked. “Because I hate him Dad and if he is President then Stanley will have to go back to Ecuador” he (dean) screamed. I had no idea he knew who Trump was. “Dad” he said, “please do not let Trump become President”. I sat him down and said “Trump will not be President and I will do everything in my power to make sure of that, and your best friend Stanley will not be sent back to Ecuador”. I then explained that fighting hate with hate was a losing battle and he needed to make sure he never became a hater like Trump “do not become what you hate in order to destroy it”.
So there you have it. I cannot in good conscious vote for Hillary but I must defeat Trump.
I will be voting against Trump but I will NOT be voting for Hillary. So when you tout the total number of folks that voted FOR Hillary this November deduct one of those because I voted against Trump not for Hillary.
Unfortunately the Democratic Party knows this all too well- “They have nowhere else to fucking go”- Rahm
