My one and only other diary came in 2012, after Newtown. Not to say that in the 3.5 years since things haven’t gotten my goat, but I usually just cork off on Facebook.
But the stakes are high these days. More than ever, it’s important to be a savvy media user. I hope I’m preaching to the choir here. But in case you’d like a reminder to send to friends, I think this is a pretty simple and good example.
Welcome to this short post, my fellow progressives. And a thousand pardons if the post violates some length requirement or other dictum I’ve forgotten about. I am happy to correct any problem.
“Meet the Press” sent out a Tweet about today's Bernie interview. Here's the important part: Note the phrasing on the Tweet: Bernie "warns" Hillary.
Sounds kinda cocky, doesn't it.
Some Hillary folks are reading this headline and having a cow. Dear lord, the reactions I’ve seen on Facebook—even from intelligent people. "Fuck you, Bernie. Where do you get off dictating anything, old man?" Vicious, reactive stuff.
Now listen to the clip. Pretty basic, smart strategy advice for winning the election. Common sense.
But because of the phrasing of the Tweet, and because so few people will listen to the original source material without prejudice, more seeds of division are sown among folks who have tons of common goals.
Words have power. Be aware of how you are being manipulated, people.
