Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire) is in the fight of her political life. Up for re-election this fall, she made the curious statement that while she supports Donald Trump in the general election, she won't endorse him.
Huh?
This is a snapshot of what the Grand Old Party is trying to deal with in this year's election cycle: Straddling the dilemma of not alienating Trump supporters, while still appealing to independents and the anti-Donald crowds. And do it without splitting their pants.
After all these years of hounding Obama for being Obama (yup, you can play the race card here), watching these white-wing Keystone Cops imploding onto themselves is entertainment in and of itself. The chaos is splintering the Party into Yes, Never, and Maybe camps. Meanwhile, neo-conservatives are frantically trying to piece together a third party organization. Still others are diligently working to derail the Trump train to create that open convention.
Grab that popcorn, folks - it's going be a fun summer.
