A little background here. Unlike many on this site, I am not a lifelong Democrat. My first election was in 1990, when I cast a vote for Illinois Governor Jim Edgar (he was a rarity among Illinois governors. He left office without being indicted).
In 1992, I voted for Bill Clinton. But that was out of economic self-interest. I was a junior in college and hoped the economy would turn-around before I graduated. It did, but didn’t help me. It would be 4 years before I found a full-time job.
1996, and Clinton again. But it was really 2000 that broke me. I could not imagine the Supreme Court would do what they did. Then Iraq and years, years of incompetence. Along the way, I realized I was liberal, found this site, moved to Chicago, got a good job, became a precinct committeeman, volunteered for Obama (twice!) and watched history get made in all sorts of interesting ways.
But this election terrified me. I was pretty sure Hillary would win the nomination on our side. And I was sure Bush or Walker or Rubio would win on the other, and the press would bend over backwards to make all the idiotic things they said look rational.
And they nominated Trump. Trump! You have to dig so deep into history to find a candidate who even approaches his unsuitability for high office it’s laughable!
Franklin Pierce (D, 1852), a good-looking drunk? Maybe.
Lewis Cass (D, 1848)?
Charles Fremont (R, 1856)? Probably gets my vote.
We knew, we knew that Hillary was going to get pummeled for not being a buddy with the press, not being “likable,” for being a smart, strong, tough-minded woman.
So what do the Rs do? Nominate the one guy who the press might end up hating more than they do Hillary. He mocks them, calls him names, denies them press credentials.
Furthermore, they can’t even pretend he is competent. And they aren’t trying. I have never seen a candidate savaged in the press like Trump has over the last several days.
The next five months are going to be GLORIOUS. We have to hang him around the neck of the Republican party like an anvil and toss them into the Potomac. Every candidate in every race, from President down to dogcatcher has to be made to answer for this loathsome excuse for a human being. And when the rubble clears and we have the House, the Senate, the Presidency, we have to ram a liberal agenda through so quickly that we remind the American people of what government can do when government is run by competent people.
Enjoy it, my friends.
