Ok, I plead guilty to the clickbait title. But one of the predominant themes that seem to be developing from the lesser developed minds out there in the world is that the shootings in Dallas were the direct result of something done, or not done, by President Obama. Or, more succinctly, the black guy is to blame for not convincing white racists to stop being racist. (Former Rep. Joe Walsh comes to mind as the leading example of a white guy mad at Obama for not convincing him to stop being a regressive embarrassment to every caring and thinking human being on the planet).
The reality is that President Obama’s “crime” is that he’s consistently asked us (collectively) to look within ourselves to work towards solutions to longstanding political and social problems. That always makes some people uncomfortable. “No, no,” they always say, “it’s someone else’s fault!!”
And, unsurprisingly, rather than paying attention to the guy who has consistently used his office to call for calm, to call for reflection and to call for peaceful action — they’d like to shift the blame to the President because he failed to achieve racial harmony. Ironically, he’s “failed” because of intransigent views of the people now seeking to blame him. (And, of course, the same folks also want to blame the advocates for victims of police violence, but I think that’s pretty well been covered elsewhere).
There really aren’t words sufficient to express what’s wrong with the reaction from the morons who who plastering their views all over social media today; none that I would like to put in writing, anyway.
