Good Evening
Welcome to another edition of the Baja Arizona Kos Sunday Open Thread. Click though for news, views and some interesting stuff from Tucson and Greater Baja.
Have you voted yet ?
If you’re on the PEVL you’ve probably got your Primary ballot by now. Tuesday, August 30 is the actual date of the Primary election so you’ll want to get it in the mail well before that to make sure it gets to the County Recorder in time. Don’t dilly dally.

Many Democrats are running unopposed in the Primary so, for most of us, the biggest decision will be which Dem to choose in CD-2. Here’s an interview with both Victoria Steele and Matt Heinz that ran on Arizona Public media on Friday.
Tucson ♥ Bernie
The Star had an interesting feature this morning (HERE). They used FEC data to chart political donations to presidential candidates in the Tucson Metro. They broke it down by ZIP code and came up with “winners,” that is, the candidates who received the most money in each. Here’s a summary:
CAMPAIGN DONATIONS
Here’s how presidential candidates did fundraising in Southern Arizona, as of June 30.
Bernie Sanders raised: $518,016 from 12,170 donations
Hillary Clinton raised: $340,475 from 4,515 donations
Ted Cruz raised: $198,027 from 2,459 donations
Ben Carson raised: $105,494 from 1,452 donations
Jeb Bush raised: $101,725 from 116 donations
Marco Rubio raised: $64,608 from 515 donations
Donald Trump raised: $47,961 from 125 donations
Of the 31 ZIP codes in the survey, Sanders out-raised everybody else in 24 and Hillary Clinton in 4. The three Republicans won one ZIP code each. The print edition had a little graphic showing the ZIP codes overlayed on a map. Clinton’s best 4 Zip codes were all on the Northside, 3 of them north of River. Bush and Cruz were strongest on the far Eastside. Trump did the best in 85703, near Grant and Oracle it looks like, where just one donor giving $500 was enough for the win
More from the Star
There were dueling op-eds on border issues this morning, one from Ann Kirkpatrick, (HERE), one from Johnny Mac, (HERE) and one from Martha, (HERE). Neto's Tucson was about the history of Canoa Ranch. Be sure to check out the photos, there’s one of Raúl Grijalva at age three. Here’s a list of the new laws that became effective at midnight on Saturday. I’m reminded, once again, that the most important elections are the ones for state office. Everybody gets all het up about the Presidential race but the laws that affect us most are state laws, not federal ones, and it would sure be nice to see some of that Presidential passion, and voter turnout, in a non-Presidential year. This is from Bloomberg, Forget Tornadoes. Rain Bombs Are Coming for Your Town. Be sure to check out the picture of a Rain Bomb over Phoenix.
