All day, today, we have been writing about Pootie Pads and Woozle Pads and about Sara and Ann’s efforts at Kickstarter which you can visit here.
As resident Pootie Princess, I’ve been republishing the diaries to The PWB Peeps, to get more eyes on them.
Now, as just The Marti I am writing to tell a tale of Community, here at Daily Kos.
I’ve been reading here since about 2004, but didn’t sign up until around this time in 2012. What I witnessed in all those years is a kick-ass political website that became so very much more.
Political web sites come and go. Why has Daily Kos stayed viable and important for all these years? It’s because of the Community, built by its members. Nothing else explains it.
As I have said so very often:
Come for the politics, stay for the community.
You know what builds community? People. Not ideas, or platforms or visions. People build community out of common bonds, not just of politics, but of genuine caring for the people we see every day, with whom we share not just ideas, but the parts of our lives that matter most to us.
In the community diaries, we share our triumphs and failures, our hopes and our nightmares. We come to each other for support in our efforts to make this world a better place for all of us. Mostly, we do that through our political efforts. But binding it all together, is our sense of belonging to a community that spans, not just this country...but the whole world.
The world is ours to change, if we have the will to do so. And we do it, by understanding that we are all part of the same thing.
There are people who make this understanding so easy to accept. Sara and Ann Reed are two of those people. In spite of poor health and poor income, these two incredible women had worked hard to make sure that our Community flourishes.
They have given their time and talents, over and over again, to give back to the community they are part of. There are many people...and their pets….who have been given comfort to keep on going when they need it. They have done it in spite of ill health, personal losses, and plain bad luck in the form of a leaky old house! And they have done it with humour and love and compassion. They want to be self-sufficient and turn their talents into a business that can support them and all the pooties at Catnip Manor.
Now, Sara and Ann need the support of this community from the top down to the newest member.
They are not asking for a hand out. They are asking for a hand up from the community that they have supported for so long.
Please visit their KickSarter page and help them spread the word about their business.
We only have 11 days to make this happen.
If this community means anything at all to you...yes, YOU….please go to the link, and do what you can. We need to share it on social media, everywhere we can.
If you believe in the power of community to change the world...please go share their KickStarter everywhere you can.
Many thanks, from one Kossack to you all.
