So Ivanka has published her second book, ‘Women Who Work’...which is full of advice that successful people,...business people, celebrities, etc.. have to impart about making a difference in the world, leadership and success. Lots of inspirational quotes and short stories ala ‘Chicken Soup For The Soul’, from people that have inspired Ivanka.
Ivanka included an inspirational quote from Jane Goodall, the conservationist and animal behavior expert, anthropologist, primatologist, and trail blazer. She also holds the title of Messenger Of Peace for the United Nations and is a leading advocate for conservation and wildlife.
The quote that Ivanka uses is, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make”.
The reference to Goodall was timely, as the book was released to the public within days after thousands marched in Washington to push for action on climate change. A movement Goodall passionately supports.
So what does the good doctor have to say to the progeny of the man that wants to systematically dismantle the very things that Jane has been advocating for for most of her 83 years like wildlife protection and clean air?
“I understand that Ms. Trump has used one of my quotes in her forthcoming book. I was not aware of this, and have not spoken with her….
I sincerely hope she will take the full import of my words to heart. She is in position to do much good or terrible harm.
Legislation that was passed by previous governments to protect wildlife such as the Endangered Species Act, create national monuments and other clean air and water legislation have all been jeopardized by this administration. I hope that Ms. Trump will stand with us to value and cherish our natural world and protect the planet for future generations.”
Gracious. Much more kind than other women whose stories are used in the book, like Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, who built a nonprofit that has placed thousands of female high school students in computer skill classes, and who has come out on Twitter to say, “Ivanka Trump, Don’t use my story in ‘Women That Work’ unless you stop being complicit”.
At least a dozen other people that have inspired Ivanka and were used in the book were vocal Hillary Clinton supporters, including Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, Warren Buffet, Deepak Chopra, Sheryl Sandberg, Colin Powell, Lauren Bush, Nadine Burke Harris, Mindy Kaling, Goodall and Saujani.
Goodall previously used her expertise with chimpanzees to critique candidate Trump’s debate demeanor during the campaign.
“In many ways the performances of Donald Trump remind me of male chimpanzees and their dominance rituals.
In order to impress rivals, males seeking to rise in the dominance hierarchy perform spectacular displays: stamping, slapping the ground, dragging branches, throwing rocks.
The more vigorous and imaginative the display, the faster the individual is likely to rise in the hierarchy, and the longer he is likely to maintain that position.”
Bingo.
Some pictures of one who is truly beautiful and a global treasure.
