Ah, the joys of rural living (well, not really rural, more just less dense rural NJ) — our 800 ft driveway kept developing potholes no matter how often we filled them in, so we decided to find a company to re-grade the driveway and add fresh gravel. Found a local place with good reviews, they came out for an estimate, we accepted, and yesterday they were there with 35 tons of 3/8 stone gravel. I took some pics this morning of the newly re-done driveway; it’s such a pleasure to drive on now, and it looks great — no more weeds or grass.
We’ve only been here 2 ½ years so far, and this is the first time we’ve had the driveway re-graveled, so I don’t know how frequently we’ll need to have it done. The street I grew up on was a dirt road, and I have vague memories of them coming every summer to scrape it and put down crushed shells to fill in potholes and such. But that was a road with more traffic than our driveway gets, so we’ll see.
In kitchen remodeling news, the order for the cabinets will be going in tomorrow; after that, we just need to find somewhere for the countertops, and flooring, and the backsplash, and electrical and plumbing and oh my gosh what did we get into? (Starting to get a little overwhelmed with all of the details that I know are coming, and how many I’m sure I’m not thinking of yet ...)
So, that’s things in my life right now. How’re things going in yours? Are you in Atlanta for Netroots Nation? Living jealously vicariously through the comments/posts of others who are there instead?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
