As much as I feel otherwise today I'd like to express some hope. Firstly, thank you to all the protesters who are in DC today to act on their constitutionally guaranteed rights to dissent and assemble. You give me hope. I hope that our media, which was granted unprecedented rights so as to hold power accountable and accurately inform the public, will do their job today and going forward. I hope elected representatives from both parties will uphold their oaths to the constitution and serve the American people instead of their party or their campaign contributors and corporate lobbyists. I hope the Democratic Party will show the kind of unity and resolve that the Republicans did in preventing Obama from doing good, to prevent the incoming administration from doing bad. And lastly, I hope we can all come together and respond to this threat--across class, racial, ethnic, political, and gender divides to turn this government around and to help it live up to the lofty ideals that are so often touted but rarely realized. If it takes the election of a charlatan to get us all moving in the right direction, than so be it. If that happens, it might all be worth it.
