Three days before the election I offered a lament, for what appeared to be on the horizon.
That lament bears repeating today, in the last hour of Holocaust Remembrance, as Donald Trump disgraces his office and his country with bigoted orders trapping the most helpless refugees in war zones.
America is more than a place, more than a people. It is a promise, it is a “promised land” — an ideal. It cannot die if it is remembered, but it cannot live in memory alone.

and listen to the song at that link. It says it all:
“By the waters, the waters of Babylon
we lay down and wept, and wept, for thee Zion
we remember, we remember, we remember thee Zion”
