Today, Donald Trump is still in denial about the conclusions of the Intelligence community that Russia sought to influence the election.
Today, Paul Ryan released a statement which read, in part:
Donald Trump won this election fair and square because he heard the voices of Americans who felt forgotten.
This is not true. Who among us thinks that it is absolutely impossible to find 80,000 voters across the 3 closest states who either turned out for Trump who otherwise wouldn’t, stayed home who would otherwise have voted for Clinton, or who switched away from Clinton because of the disinformation campaign?
The margin is what decides the election. 80,000 votes different, and we’d be talking about a wide popular vote and narrow electoral vote win for Clinton.
If the Republicans fail to recognize this reality, if they ignore the circumstances of their win, if they continue pressing for their far right-wing agenda and enable Trump’s backwards and disgusting policies knowing that Russia tipped them over the edge, they must be treated as illegitimate.
If they wish to govern at all, they must govern moderately and in cooperation with Democrats.
Otherwise? Shut it down.
