A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

I won’t be here today. We’ll be driving to Sacramento at 6 AM. I have an appointment for a consultation. I’m also going to be gone next week as well and won’t be doing a Thanksgiving diary. Since things are not normal now, I get pleasure in the good news that’s coming out between the cracks.
So, today I’m just going to put up a little bit of what I consider to be good news. First a short video. It’s from just a couple days ago when Jeff Sessions was grilled by Congress:
Sessions: Obama Marijuana Policy Remains In Effect
He also conceded that cannabis is not as dangerous as heroin and that a current budget rider prevents the Department of Justice from prosecuting people who are in compliance with state medical marijuana laws.
"Our policy is the same, really, fundamentally as the Holder-Lynch policy, which is that the federal law remains in effect and a state can legalize marijuana for its law enforcement purposes but it still remains illegal with regard to federal purposes," Sessions said, referring to his predecessors as attorney general during the Obama administration.

And then just some more info about alcohol vs. cannabis. This is stuff we all know but it’s still good to see new articles coming out that report the facts. What I like about the article I link to below is that it’s also fair regarding cannabis’ health causing issues as well. If you read the article it will point out potential health risk with cannabis use. I’ve not included those in the block quote below. You’ll just have to read the article in full to find out.
More than 30,700 Americans died from alcohol-induced causes in 2014. There have been zero documented deaths from marijuana use alone.
Marijuana appears to be significantly less addictive than alcohol.
Alcohol is strongly linked with several types of cancer; marijuana is not.
Several studies link alcohol with violence, particularly at home. That has not been found for cannabis. (my comment here. If you dig into the studies, cannabis use causes mellowness while alcohol can cause aggression and loss of inhibition).

The video below is from the article in the link above. It’s an ex Denver Nugget player who explains his position and claims that 70% of pro athletes use cannabis. Then he interviews David Stern...the old NBA commissioner about cannabis. Interesting and illuminating.
