Polls closed almost three quarters of an hour ago but we’re still only up to 3% reporting, which is not enough to draw any meaningful conclusions about where tonight’s going to head. But while we wait, here are a couple of pieces of trivia:
The last time Democrats won a statewide election in Alabama was 2008, when then-Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley won a term on the state’s Public Service Commission. The last time Democrats won a Senate race here was in 1992, when Richard Shelby won a second term. Two years later, after the 1994 wave that gave Republicans control of Congress, he switched to the GOP.
