Trump trolls--it seems--are everywhere and are now attacking Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson for expressing concerns about Trump’s Muslim ban, saying he voted for Hillary and wishing Barack Obama was still President...among other things.
Here’s an excerpt from a recent Washington Post article about what Wilson said about Trump on a Facebook Live post (www.washingtonpost.com/...).
Wilson was speaking while sitting in a barbershop chair, streaming the experience on Facebook Live. After soliciting sports topics for conversation, such as the upcoming Super Bowl (“The Pats will win”) and Serena Williams (“One of the greatest athletes of all time”), the three-time Pro Bowler said he wanted to move on to “world issues,” specifically his country’s new leader.
“Donald Trump becoming our president, despite anybody’s political issues or views, everybody has the right to choose who they want to vote for, but this thing is getting out of hand,” Wilson said, alternating between looking at the camera and at others in the barbershop. “It’s getting out of hand, people.
“I don’t care who you voted for — just so you know, I voted for Hillary [Clinton] — but, when you think about it, it’s only been what two weeks? Or even less than that. . . .
“Basically, I think that when you think about all the negativity that’s happened within a 10-day period, or however many days it’s been, it’s already too much,” Wilson continued. “It’s already crazy. It’s already affecting people’s hearts and souls and lives in such a negative way, in my opinion.”
Wilson then brought up the large protest over the weekend at Los Angeles International Airport, one of many across the country, of Trump’s executive order barring travel into the United States by citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries. Saying that “there’s people all over the place fighting for their lives and protesting,” the quarterback noted, “If we’re gonna be a nation that says we’re equal, we have to be equal.”
“Obviously you have to be smart, but you also have to treat people fairly, you have to be able to love everyone,” Wilson said. “I know from even my own faith, the Christian faith, you still have to love everybody. No matter what our issues are, we still have to find ways to love people and care for people.”
“I think that’s the thing that’s been crazy already. I don’t even know if he’s going to be able to last four years, in my opinion.
“You don’t want to wish bad upon anybody, because if he doesn’t last four years, that means that something went wrong. So hopefully nothing goes wrong, any more than what it’s already doing, but it’s just been a crazy 10 days already.”
Wilson then issued a plea for the return of the president Trump replaced, exclaiming “Barack! Come back, Barack! Come back, Barack!”
Of course Wilson’s words don’t sit well with Trump supporters. Here are a few of their predictable, braindead comments posted at on Pro Football Talk (profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/...):
1. “Russell, Canada is just a short hop from Seattle. If you are not happy here hop a flight big man and live someplace else that would make you happy.”
2. “Stick to football pea brain.”
3. “Dangeruss is a snowflake? Who woulda guessed?”
4. “I would at least like him to tell us how many refuges his is going to move in and take care of?”
5. “All these protests, like BLM, started under Obummer b/c BLM believes that blacks should be allowed to attack or shoot at police officers without consequences. No one that is a citizen of a country other than the USA has a right to immigrate or visit here.”
6. “Shut up and play football, nobody cares what you think…If you feel so bad about the immigrants, adopt a few…”
7. “The black community has been out of hand for years so aren’t we all use to it by now.”
8. “Interesting also he’d admit to voting for a lying criminal then follow it up with a comment about his Christian faith. If it bothers you that much Russell then leave.”
9. “Shut your yap Wilson. If you don’t like our President, move. See how much money you can make in Canada.”
I think that’s enough for you to get the picture. Sadly, the VAST majority of the comments dragged Wilson and were pro-Trump. Maybe the commentors are mostly paid trolls or perhaps real NFL fans who tend to be conservative. Either way it’s still very disheartening to know so many Americans are okay with a proven pathological liar in the Oval Office, banning Muslims, building walls of hate, bragging about committing sexual assault, swindling students, trashing NATO and cozying up to a foreign dictator who interfered with our election.
I salute Russell Wilson for speaking out against Trump. He’s usually been the type who never says anything that’s poentially controversial. But his words were spot on and much needed. “Dangeruss” indeed...part of The Resistance.
