The Republicans have been able to hide behind all sorts of things — their superior morality, their willingness to secure our borders, their protection of taxpayers, their support for defense, their support for gun rights, their support for religious freedom, their support for voting integrity, their support for free markets. And even though most of these Republican “beliefs” or “policy stances” are phony — and serve as beards for the only things Republican office holders and their sugar daddies actually believe in which is the further enrichment and entrenchment of already entrenched wealth — Republicans have gotten away with it because of the failure of the fourth estate and the detachment and bigotry of many Americans.
Now there is only one issue on the table. Treason. Every business, trade association, union, religious institution, university, elected official, media outlet, etc. should be contacted and asked for their opinion on Treason. Now that Rand Paul has let the cat out of the bag that Treason when committed by Republicans is to be ignored and buried, he and his party must be challenged.
The Republican Party for most of the 20th and all of the 21st centuries has favored entrenched wealth over the interests of our people and our nation. Be it isolationism and disarmament in the face of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and Tojo; the use of American power to further the interests of the wealthy in Iran, Guatemala, Congo, South Africa, El Salvador, Cuba, Chile or Taiwan; the use of military power on behalf of Saudi Arabia and their willing allies in Texas and Oklahoma in two wars; and the use of independent diplomacy to undermine Johnson’s Vietnam peace initiative, Carter’s negotiations to release the hostages, or Obama’s agreement to ensure a nuclear weapon free Iran by negotiation.
The “Daddy” party, however, continued to convince American corporate, religious and media elites that Republicans were dedicated in defending the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, more so than Democrats for sure. Well that is a lie.
We now have evidence that the President, his current staff and his election team consorted with a foreign power — Russia — without the knowledge of the public to undermine American security and the security of our allies. Whether it be motivated by blackmail, by lucre (without Trump’s tax returns there is no reason to think he has not received 40 pieces of silver from the Russians), by shared racist ideologies, by pay for play election fraud, nonetheless it is Treason. Russia is an aggressive power that has annexed land in contravention to international law, that has suppressed its own people and that has engaged in wholesale human rights violations in Ukraine and Syria. It is, with China, the only nation with offensive weapons aimed at the United States, backed by military doctrines that make their use “real.”
I have begun contacting corporations and asking them what their position on Treason is. I just emailed Koch Industries since they are so active in politics and their web site is headlined by their supposed interest in reducing American incarceration rates (apparently they don’t own shares in any privatized prison companies).
We are in the midst of a fundamental crisis. All Americans — as individuals, as members of organizations, as employers, as employees, as consumers, as teachers, as journalists, as friends and family members — need to raise the question of whether Treason is to be tolerated. Treason is on the table. Nothing more matters right now.
