Quick hit because it's breaking.
Reported by Joy Reid on MSNBC.
Apparently, Sen. Elizabeth Warren was reading the letter from Coretta Scott King into the Senate record during the debate about the confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.
Sen. Mitch McConnell then invoked Senate Rule 19 about how Senators are not allowed to impugn other Senators on the floor of the Senate. The Senate then agreed that Warren violated Rule 19, and Warren was not only not allowed to read King's letter, she will not be allowed to participate further in this debate.
There are (at least) two outrages here. One is that somehow the words of Coretta Scott King are so nasty that they cannot be uttered on the floor of the Senate, even though they are already in the Congressional Record.
The second is that the Senate Republicans can now prevent the Democrats from saying anything critical of Sessions, using the excuse that he is a sitting Senator.
So much for a fair and honest debate.
