I knew that sooner or later she’d emerge from her little ‘vacation’ and plop herself back into the public eye. And the reason she would do it is because people like her just don’t know when to shut the f**k up and go away. And the fact that the ‘mainstream’ media is so supine and so weak that they’ll once again lap up every word she says only means that we’ll have her around for God knows how long.
And of course where did Hillary announce her imminent return? Where else but in The New York Times, complete with her usual, self-deprecating attempt at false modesty because everyone knows just how difficult life has been for the former First Lady who, by the way, has never been able to campaign herself out of a paper bag.
Actually, she made the announcement at a St. Patrick’s Day women’s event in Scranton, PA, which was perfectly scripted because she was able to appeal to the White, working-class folks in Scranton, remind them of her own working-class roots and, of course, let them know that she was finally beginning to recover from the terrible shock of November 8th.
The fact that the shock was entirely of her own making, of course, was never alluded to or said. Modesty or self-doubt have never been watchwords for either of the Clintons, particularly for her. And before you begin to think that this story is the product of someone who supports Trump, think again. I voted for Bill Clinton both times and I voted for her. But enough is enough. She ran the worst Democratic Presidential campaign I have ever seen (and I have been following politics since 1960) and she and her husband are now a curse on the Party and on progressive politics in general, and I really wish they would both go take a flying leap and disappear.
Because here’s what will happen now that Hillary is back on the scene. Every time that Trump does or says something really hurtful, racist or just plain dumb, the media will immediately ask Hillary for a comment and don’t think she’ll ever be too busy to respond. And the moment she responds, Trump will get on Twitter and fire right back, and he’ll use the argument with Hillary to deflect criticism from what is really going on. He did it again and again in the campaign, he’ll do it again now. And she will love being the center of attention again and will respond in kind.
What the Democratic Party really needs to do is develop a new generation of national leadership with ideas and energies that can overwhelm Trump. I’m thinking of a guy like Jason Kander, for example, who ran the best, most original campaign ad that I ever saw. But as long as shop-worn creatures like Hillary hang around, they’ll suck all the air out of the room and make it difficult for bright, young people like Kander to get any attention at all.
I said it above and I’ll say it again: please Mrs. Clinton, just dry up and disappear. It’s not as if we need you around to tell us why we need to resist Trump. Come to think of it, maybe what we should really do is start resisting you.
