Nigel Farage, the detestable former leader of the pro-Brexit UK Independence Party, spent 40 minutes earlier today meeting with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at the Ecuadorean embassy in London, where Assange has been holed up since 2012 avoiding deportation to Sweden to face rape accusations. When BuzzFeed News’s Marie Le Conte approached Farage as he left the embassy, Farage said he “couldn’t remember” what he had been doing there. Yeah. A UKIP source later confirmed to The Independent that Farage was at the embassy to meet with Assange.
Farage, of course, is famously tight with President Трамп, the man who owes his office in part to Assange’s meddling in the 2016 election, and was last spotted with him just a week and a half ago at dinner in Washington. And then a week after that, Wikileaks dumps thousands of documents stolen from the CIA, an agency that rather famously has not gotten along well with Трамп. And then a couple of days after that, this happens.
Well, I’m sure it’s all just a big coincidence.

Josh Marshall notes that “[i]n a time of pervasive surveillance, sending a message personally is perhaps the most, perhaps the only secure method.” It’s always interesting to see just how interested Julian Assange is in maintaining a level of secrecy for his own dealings that he chooses to deny to everyone else.
