I just had to look up what the hell the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is. I mean, I do consider myself fairly informed about this and that and the other thing. But as far as the DCCC goes I know close to bupkis. Maybe I’m just your average Joe knucklehead and haven’t been paying close enough attention to all the non-stop e-mails they send – thrice daily - asking me for money. But from what I understand this entity – the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee – is composed of elected Democrats already in the US House of Representatives who are tasked with getting more Democrats elected to the House. It’s a noble cause for sure given the current Republican monstrosity (or majority) in both houses of congress.
But that didn’t stop me from doing a more comprehensive yet hasty Internet search to find out more. According to the Wikipedia Gods, the DCCC recruit candidates, raise funds, and organize races in districts that are expected to yield politically notable or close elections. Wow, that sounds like a serious full-time job! Holy crap, that’s important work. It’s a good thing these folks in Congress don’t have much else to do with regard to passing legislation and duly representing the district that elected them.
Sarcasm aside, the way I see it - Joe knucklehead - the DCCC is a part-time job for elected officials who already have a exceptionally difficult full-time job in the most broken branch of our three-branch system of government.
If that’s the case I have to ask is that how Dems win? I ask in all seriousness because I’m a diehard NY Jets fan so winning has become a pretty elusive concept. However, I somehow doubt the New England Patriots would’ve made it to the Super Bowl (once again) if the entire offensive line focused less on play execution and more on scouting for new players and constantly trying to sell season tickets to big donors. There must be a coach and a team of assistant coaches and trainers who can lead the DCCC and run the entire operation from the top down better than the actual players in congress can. Unless of course the Democratic Party’s long term goal is to follow in the uninspired footsteps of a my beloved Jets. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
IT’S ALL OR NOTHING!
ABSOLUTELY SICKENING!
GOP DEFEATED!
DON’T THROW IN THE TOWEL!
These are just some of the urgent e-mails the DCCC has flooded my inbox with over the last week alone. It’s okay, though. I get it. They want my attention and – more importantly – they want my hard-earned money, which I’d gladly give if and when they stop hitting the snooze button and wake up because we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore.
I woke up this morning to discover the special election in Kansas's 4th congressional district is being touted as a huge success for Democrats even though they lost. Sure, I get that Trump won this particular district in 2016 by 27 points and that Kansas is blood-red Republican and – like lemmings if lemmings wore pants and showed up at the polls – usually vote against their own interests. But it is no big secret that the Republican Governor of Kansas – Sam Brownback - is like phlegm in the throat of Kansans and – next to Chris Christie of NJ – he’s the least popular Governor in the entire country.
It’s also no big secret that our Republican President is a complete and utter meatball. So… yeah… I guess it is astounding the underfunded Democratic challenger in Kansas’s 4th district was able to close the point gap by 20 points on his own. Maybe more so if you live under a giant rock or reside in deep space. But if you don’t and happen to be part of the team tasked with getting underfunded Democrats elected and you’ve known about this special election since our meatball President nominated Mike Pompeo to be the CIA Director then it was kind of your job to know everything about the temperature on the ground in Kansas's 4th congressional district. And since there are no participation trophies in politics I can only surmise that the DCCC failed miserably.
“Democrats say they occasionally need to ignore an election in order to win it” is the message that just came across my smartphone newsfeed. Okay… That’s certainly a strategy I’m just not sure it is a winning one. But I guess we shall see on April 18th when the next special election takes place in Georgia’s 6th Congressional district to replace Tom Price.
Let’s go Jets!
