Dyngus Day is a Polish holiday celebrated on the day after Easter. In South Bend, Indiana, it’s also the biggest political day of the year. Democrats and Republicans alike hold big rallies, make the rounds, drink beer and eat sausage. It’s typically a time when candidates announce that they’ll be running for office. But this year, per The South Bend Tribune, the Republican Party is nowhere to be found! Hmmmm. Back in 2014, they were proud that they “knew how to Dyngus.” (Doesn’t that sound dumb?) And in 2015 and 2016, they were out in full force too. But now?? Seems they’ve just got too many events planned… You know, you can only do so much speechifying.
The St. Joseph County Republican Party has decided not to host an event this year because there are no elections and it already is planning its annual Lincoln Day Dinner for 6 p.m. Thursday at Morris Park Country Club, chair Lynn Fitzpatrick said. Speaking at the Lincoln Day event will be U.S. Rep. Luke Messer, who represents Indiana's 6th District and has been mentioned as a potential candidate for Donnelly's Senate seat up for election next year, and Rep. Jackie Walorski.
Oh or maybe they’re afraid. The Morris Park Country Club is located at 2200 McKinley Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615. Luke Messer and Jackie Walorski will both there Thursday, April 20 at 6:00 if anyone would like to stop by and say hi. Mark your calendars! (Unfortunately I will not be in town on that date.)
